Dumbbells
When it comes to building bicep muscles there is no beating a set of good dumbbells as they are ideal for the dumbbell curl exercise.
| When buying dumbbells is there is not a huge amount of choice, generally there may be a slight difference is the weight and the materials used but these are not so important. The metal dumbbells look better but cost a little more and the ones with some extra weight are good but they usually have a few discs so that you can alter the weight anyway and you can often buy more if need be. |  |
| The key to using dumbbells is to perform the dumbbell curl correctly
as this will work the biceps very well. You should start with a dumbbell
in each hand, parallel to your body and with your arms straight down.
You then simply lift the dumbbells straight up and towards your shoulders
and then simply lower them back to the starting position. You should do the dumbbell curls in a slow and controlled manner as you do not want the momentum to help you with the lifting, this just makes it easier but works your muscles less and so defeats the object of doing the exercise. |
You also need to consider your safety when using dumbbells so make sure that your back is straight when you are doing the weight lifting and it is also wise to have your knees slightly bent. You can also sit on a weight bench if you have one as this will provide some great support to your back and so this is very much recommended and you can easily use the seat on a multi gym.
