Rowing Machines

A rowing machine is a very good piece of exercise equipment which works the legs very much and also other parts of the body such as the arms and back.

Using a rowing machine can give back problems to some people though and so if you have had back problems we suggest that you choose another piece of exercise equipment such as an exercise bike or cross trainer. If you do choose a rowing machine they can be very effective at burning calories and improving your body, be sure to keep your back straight and always choose a low resistance setting when you begin using the rowing machine and then build up slowly. You should aim to do at least 30 minutes on your rowing machine but more is always better so an hour would be excellent and also make sure you have some good trainers to wear while you are rowing.

There are two main types of rowing machine that you can buy with the cheap version being the hydraulic rowing machine with metal arms at either side of the rower. We suggest that you avoid these as they are not as good as the 'proper' rowing machines and can make a very annoying noise when they have been used allot. The best type of rowing machine has a single rope with a small handle bar on it that comes out of the main base. You pull this back and forth and so they are much easier to use and they are also of a much higher quality and will last allot longer.

As with any exercise equipment it is always wise to look at the features that the rowing machine has and most of these are found in the LCD console. Look for rowers that can keep track of your heart rate as this is always good to know and information such as speed and distance covered is also good (bear in mind that rowing is a very slow sport and so do not get too disappointed when you see you have covered quite a small distance!).
